Well it was a disappointing season for the Halifax MooseHeads. I only had 14 goals and 27 assists with only 41 points. But I still had the Prospects game left to play to show my talent. I was nervous heading into the prospects I had to train a lot. I started getting up @ 6 am to lift wights go for jogs and all that stuff. I got a call from a scout saying that their interested in me they didn't say what team or who they were. I was excited but I couldn't have that on my mind the whole time in my training and my prospects game.
I called the scout the next day to try and figure out who he was. When I called there was no answer. He called me back and said " kid you better get ready because the prospects game is tomorrow." I played the prospects game and got an assist. I fed right up the Phillips and was on a breakaway and sniped it . The draft was in three days so all I did was relax and wait. Have you ever had the felling when you have a boring class or as a kid waiting for christmas and the time goes so slow ? Well that's the way it felt for me. Well I was here and i felt like peeing my pants. Gary Bettman started to say the draftees and thats when I heard my name. The Chicago BlackHawks are prod to select from the Halifax MooseHeads Griffin Burke. My family went nuts Mom and Dad were crying my sister didn't know what just happened and my brother was pretty happy to.
I went up and said "thank you". They passed me my hat and my jersey and I got my picture taken. When I went to the back i had 50 text messages and 41 missed calls. I just deleted them all except for one. The last one caught my eye. It was from Jonathan Red. I called and he said " hey Burkie who did you get drafted by "? I said " the Blackhawks" Do I know you? He said "nope". Well then who are you? I'm your agent.
